Jim was born in Beacon Falls, Connecticut and went on to attend the Lyndon State College. He is someone who provides accurate information on the weather. He uses terms that everybody can understand easily, and makes the presentation highly enjoyable. He is extremely visible on the television and is thus always on. Jim is easily recognizable by most people.
He has covered major weather events such as hurricanes Katrina, Gustav, Rita, Isabel, Floyd, Andrew, Mitch, Irene, Bonnie and Sandy. He does more than just weather field reporting. Jim has also reported from events such as the Space Shuttle Discovery Launch, PGA tournaments, Winter X Games, and NFL games. Cantore hosted the weather segments for NBC during the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the American Meteorologist Society and the National Weather Association. Jim has the AMS Television Seal of Approval and has received the NOAA- David S. Johnson Award in 2003 for his use of the environmental satellite technology.
Jim is married to Tamra Cantore. They met at TWX. They have a daughter, Christina, who was born in 1993 and a son Ben, who was born in 1995. Sadly, Tamra suffers from Parkinson’s disease, and both the children have Fragile X Syndrome. The marriage didn’t last – the couple divorced in 2007. Cantore does a lot for charity. He works for the “Make a Wish Foundation”. He is a celebrity cabinet member with the American Red Cross as well.
