Marion Blumenthal Lazan and her family survived six-and-a-half years in Holocaust prisons, including Westerbork in Holland and the notorious Bergen-Belsen in the heart of Nazi Germany—the concentration camp in which Anne Frank was imprisoned until her death. Lazan drew on these experiences for her memoir Four Perfect Pebbles—whose title comes from the search for pebbles which offered a sense of purpose and a sense of hope for her and her older brother during the darkest days of their imprisonment. In addition to her memoir, co-authored with children’s book author Lila Perl, Lazan has toured widely for a quarter-century discussing her Holocaust experiences.
